I just came back from seeing the new Will Smith movie Hancock. I try to see every Will Smith movie that comes out as I love him. I wasn’t sure how I would like this, but I’m glad I went. It was great. There was action, humor, explosions, and Will Smith. What more could you ask for!

I went swimming yesterday at one of the city pools. I haven’t gone fun swimming in years. It was so much fun. The only down side-all the kids. Are there grown up pools anywhere? That’s what I want.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the kids. I realized lately that people are surprised that I like kids and don’t like dogs. I wonder why that is? Is it because I don’t have kids? I don’t have dogs either. Weird.

I was at Walmart this morning and noticed a large number of girls and women in swimsuits and bikinis. There was also a large number of men in half shirts. Someone pointed out to me that today is the first day of Country Stampede (I thought it started on a Friday)! Get ready Manhappiness! The town is about to be invaded by drunk sunburned half dressed country fans!

A tornado went through town tonight, but I’m ok. At first glance nothing in my surrounding neighborhood was touched. I guess I slept through the siren, but awoke to a phone call from a friend asking me to come over during the storm. Now you know my body’s priorities. Sleep through tornado siren, but not the phone.

I guess some places were pretty badly damaged. I’ll find out more in the light of day.

I had a great day. Work was fine even though I had tons of email to go through while I was away at a conference (which will be blogged about later). Had supper with a friend and enjoyed the lovely weather. Then I came home to find that some punk kid through a giant rock through my front window! I’m so angry and just a bit scared. Nothing was wrong with the house outside of the window. Man the rock went far, maybe 8 or 10 feet into the house.

I had to call the police, which I don’t think I’ve ever done before. The operator said that several house on my blocked reported the same thing. I know the group of kids who did it. They hang around the neighborhood with nothing to do but cause trouble once the sun sets. They wander the streets all night long, apparently with no parent caring that they aren’t in home sleeping in their beds. Errr. Why me? I hate kids after dark.

I thought it was strange that Facebook thought the word Facebook was misspelled, but I can get over that. I’m not much of a speller myself so I can’t be picky. What is really weird is that Facebook wouldn’t let me look at pictures of myself that I uploaded onto my profile. It said “Sorry, you can’t view more photos of Tara because the owner(s) of the photos have restricted privacy settings.” I’m the owner! How can I privacy block my own pictures from myself?

Weird.

I got tagged by See Food to tell you all sorts of things that are interesting about me (in my head). Here goes:

1. I believe I have an crazy music library in my head. Not that I know a lot songs, usually I can only remember bits and pieces (and please don’t ask me the title/artist!). But if you give me a topic or a word, I can usually sing about it. A strange talent, I know. I also remember things put to music. Thank you School House Rock and Sesame Street. If not for your musical facts I would have had to pay more attention during class. I also know the 50 states in alphabetical order because of the song “Fifty Nifty United States”

Too bad we didn’t learn the states and capitals to Turkey in the Straw.

2. I’ve never left the country. Maybe someday. When transporters are affordable. And invented.

3. I used to play the violin. During my senior year in high school my orchestra played in Carnegie Hall. The only song I remember us playing was “Hoe-Dow” from Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo” aka “Beef-It’s what’s for dinner”.

4. I have a hard time wearing something if I see someone I know in the same item (minus team shirts, which is totally cool and also not an outfit). Which sucks in a town with one small mall. It’s likely we ladies are going to shop in the same place. I have a nice dress that I can’t wear because a coworker work it to work one day. I don’t know why I have this problem. I need a few step program.

5. I never go to the basement during a tornado. Partly because I have an icky cellar and not a basement, partially because I don’t want to. Yep, I’m a grown up and no longer required to do something just because it is good and safe.

Been forever since I’ve blogged. I’ve been busy! I went to a friend’s graduation and little bro’s high school graduation. They were nice, but as to be expected with a graduation. Speeches, hot weather, and lots of pictures.

I just came back from the Wakonse Conference on College Teaching, the most awesome conference EVER! I’m trying not to be so evangelical about how great this conference is, but I can’t help it. I’ve never been to a conference where everyone was happy to be there and all the sessions were good. To top it off, the weather was beautiful and cool and we were on the beach. An excellent napping place, if I must say so myself.
